Victor Nzomo

Victor Nzomo is a qualified attorney from Kenya specializing in intellectual property, media and entertainment Law. He is the co-founder and director at Intellectual Property Assets Consulting (IPAC) LLC. Before opening his firm, he worked at Kenya Copyright Board (KECOBO), Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) and the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) in Geneva, Switzerland.

As an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, he has practiced for a number of firms such as Ransley, McVicker & Shaw Advocates in Nairobi. He currently serves as a member of the ICT/Intellectual Property Committee of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK).

In 2012, he was among the three founding members of the Centre for Intellectual Property and Information Technology Law (CIPIT) at Strathmore University Law School. He also serves as a research fellow and lead consultant at CIPIT. In 2015, he received the Best Education Blog Award at the 4th Annual Kenya Blog Awards for his publications and editorial work on CIPIT's blog.

In 2014, he was named among the Top 50 Most Influential People in Intellectual Property Worldwide by the international magazine Managing Intellectual Property™.

His main areas of research, training and legal practice include national and international intellectual property (IP) law, copyright law, trademark law, media law, information and communications technology (ICT) law and allied matters. He serves as pro-bono legal adviser to Bloggers Association of Kenya (BAKE) as well as IP counsel to several local companies licensed as content service providers and broadcasters.

He holds the following qualifications: Trademark and Patent Agent (Kenya Industrial Property Institute), Masters of Laws (LL.M), Intellectual Property and Governance (University of Nairobi), Post-graduate Diploma in Law (Kenya School of Law), Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) (Hons) (University of South Africa).

He is an avid blogger and social commentator who is best known for his blog called IP Kenya which is recognized as one of the leading IP-related blogs in Africa based on readership, traffic and influence. Victor is a Kenyan and a Pan-Africanist.

He speaks both French and English fluently and has lived and worked in over eight countries in Africa, Europe and North America.
