Mitchell Banda

Mitchell Banda affectionately known as StarMichy is a force in the Zimbabwean hiphop and urban entertainment industry.  A pioneer and a creative powerhouse who has been involved in some of the most impactful careers and projects that define Zimbabwean culture. 

Her experience include serving on the board of the Zimbabwe Hiphop Awards (2020-2022) where she oversaw the operational side of the awards ceremony. She is the founder of #ForTheCITY a monthly urban culture event that started in 2024 that sought to create a space for the creative community in Bulawayo to connect ,network and form synergies for cross disciplinary collaboration.

In 2025, she was part of the core administration team that delivered the Kwela Initiative Project ,a U.S Embassy and Next Level Global backed programme that sought to develop hiphop artists and producers in Bulawayo. She is also part of the British Council's Music Connects 2025 Cohort. 

In the same year,she managed to secure a top20 spot in the Old Mutual Zimbabwe's Value Creation Challenge 5 under the Creative Pillar. 

As a woman in a male dominated industry ,StarMichy has risen to greater heights and is knocking on the doors of regional and global influence and impact.
