Dr. Evelyne Mushira

Bio

Evelyne Mushira is a lecturer at the Department of Music and Dance at Kenyatta University in Kenya.

Mushira holds a Ph.D in Music Education from Kenyatta University. Her research interests include music curriculum development, choral music and promotion of peace and understanding through community music. She believes that, if well harnessed, music possesses the power to transform minds, bringing human beings to a place where similarities become important. Mushira is involved in the North-South-South Collaboration project of the MECI Project. The initiative was designed to bring together music scholars from East Africa, Southern Africa and Finland.

At national level, she supports the Kenya Music Festival as an adjudicator and the Permanent Presidential Music Commission in researching and documenting music. Mushira has published articles in book chapters and journals and facilitated workshops, seminars and conferences. Her book, 'Curriculum Design and Musical Communication', is a product of research, with a view of illuminating issues on music education in Kenya.

As of October 2018, Mushira was the deputy director at the Permanent Presidential Music Commission (PPMC) and continues to undertake research and publication, among other academic pursuits.
