ASILI DUB
Bio
ASILI DUB is a Nairobi-based fusion band renowned for its unique sound, which intricately blends African, Taarab, and Indian guitar and keyboard melodies with deep Drum and Bass rhythms and uplifting bluesy lyrics. The band was founded by Jahm (bass, vocals) and Kombo (lead guitars, vocals), who first connected at a peace festival in Mogadishu, Somalia in 2013. Upon returning to Nairobi, they started working with DJ/Producer Dread Steppa.
The band's evolution has seen various line-ups, featuring artists like Idd Aziz, Vishaka, Sofia Chaichee, Ras Malak, Izo Anyanga, Dread Steppa and Alai K. A significant shift occurred in 2017 when A.D. pursued an analog approach, integrating members Ras Lyon Hart (lead vox), Walter Mwangombe (keys), and Morris Kivisi (drums). This new formation debuted at festivals in Uganda and Kenya.
A landmark year was 2018, when A.D. collaborated with legendary sound engineer Asad Rajput and visual tech maestro Robins Kiama on the "INI Live Sessions," an online showcase highlighting Nairobi's burgeoning live Reggae scene. This year also saw the band honoured to headline the Zanzibar Reggae Festival and release their debut single, "Tell Me This," recorded by Rajput and mastered by Jabbar Din.
Following 2019 showcases and concert series, the pandemic forced a hiatus in 2020. The band reunited in mid-2025, closing the year with a series of performances.
The band’s current line-up consists of Jahm (bass, vox), Kombo, (guitar, vox), Walter (keys, vox) and Cholo (drums, vox).
