Jimmy Nevis

Bio

Born and bred in Cape Town, South Africa, Jimmy Nevis grew up in a religious, musical home and became active in his community, singing at various churches and events. After being exposed to secular pop music, in high School years he started to take his craft seriously. After finishing school, in early 2012 he wrote and produced a track called ‘Elephant Shoes’, which received national radio airplay. Jimmy then signed with independent record label Rude World Records and signed a licensing and publishing deal for a debut album with David Gresham Records.

November 2012 saw the national release of his debut album, ‘Subliminal’, which did well in stores as well as online. He soon signed an exclusive deal for his second single, ‘Heartboxing’, with electronic label Ultra Records in America. Other singles released off his debut album include ‘In Love With You’ and ‘Balloon’. Nevis then collaborated with Mi Casa (on ‘Feel the Love’) and electronic DJ duo Pascal & Pearce (on ‘Jericho’).

The year 2014 also saw many award nominations, including Record of the Year at the SAMA (South African Music Awards) and Most Gifted R&B Male Artist at the 2014 Channel O Africa Video Music Awards. In November 2014 Nevis released his sophomore album, ‘The Masses’, featuring the singles ‘Misscato’ and ‘Day Dream (Last Night)’. In mid-2015 he was nominated for an MTV Africa Music Award in the category Best Pop & Alternative. He also launched his Blue Collar Foundation, a bursary programme that will contribute towards tertiary education for underprivileged high school students in Cape Town.
