Tina Watyoka

Bio

This gifted young artist has pursued music from a young age, completing the National Certificate in Music, forming a band, building an audience and performing widely in Harare up to the present. Tina has worked with acclaimed artists such as the late mbira star Chiwoniso Maraire, toured with the late Taku Mafika to Europe in 2010, played at HIFA 2012 with both Busi Ncube (now based in Europe) and the acclaimed poet Comrade Fatso & Chabvondoka¸ and performed in 2013 at Mozambique's Independence Day celebrations with her own project, Chimoio. She’s a regular performer at Harare's popular Book Café, both solo and in collaborations with many other young artists, including at the monthly Sistaz Open Mic platform. She has also participated in workshops for the development of female artists.

Still performing in Harare and the small city of Gweru (with a uni-band), Tina is now studying for an Honours degree in Music & Musicology at Midlands State University. She performed for the President of Zimbabwe for the first time at MSU Graduation Ceremonies of 2013. Her studies bring her back and forth between Gweru and Harare each week, crossing over from the study to the reality of delivering the arts in Zimbabwe.

In 2010 Tina recorded her debut album, ‘Introducing Tina’, which received good airplay in Zimbabwe, and she recently launched her second album, ‘Ndoita Sei’.
