Music Exchange (MEX)
Bio
Music Exchange (MEX) is South Africa's premier independent music, film, and entertainment conference, dedicated to empowering local creatives with the essential business knowledge and practical skills needed to build sustainable careers in the entertainment economy.
Founded in 2009 by industry veteran and publicist Martin Myers, MEX provides a vital platform for knowledge-sharing, networking, and collaboration, bridging local African talent with global opportunities. The conference is renowned for attracting international and local industry thought leaders—including executives from Abbey Road Studios, Sony Music, BMI, and The MLC—to discuss key issues such as monetization, digital rights management, AI in music, and the future of live performance.
Beyond its annual flagship summit held in Cape Town, MEX operates as a year-round platform, hosting workshops, masterclasses, and a dedicated radio show, "The Business of Entertainment" on CapeTalk. By connecting emerging artists with seasoned professionals, MEX plays a crucial role in developing and strengthening Africa's creative economy from the grassroots level to the global stage.
