Kid X

Bio

Kid X, born Bonginkosi Mahlangu, is an artist whose career reflects consistent growth, creativity, and an unwavering sense of authenticity. His emergence began during his time with the Cashtime Family, where audiences first recognised his potential, from his sharp wordplay and composed delivery to a distinctly South African sound that felt both innovative and familiar.

What sets Kid X apart is his ability to evolve without compromising his identity. Following his tenure with Cashtime, he took a significant step by co-founding Rap Lyf alongside Kwesta, a move that underscored not only his artistic vision but also his leadership. This period saw the release of standout tracks such as ‘Pass ’n Special’ and ‘Mtan ’Omuntu’, songs that continue to occupy a nostalgic space in South African music.

His commitment to growth became even more apparent in 2025 when he graduated as a qualified sound and audio engineer from Revolution Media Academy. This accomplishment demonstrated his determination to refine his craft beyond natural talent. Through the bursary programme that supported him, he also contributed to creating opportunities for aspiring young creatives, adding meaningful impact to his industry footprint.

Kid X has explored creative interests beyond music as well. His stint as host of The Hanger on Trace Urban revealed a charismatic on-screen presence, despite his light-hearted remarks about being “camera shy”. His crochet phase further highlighted his openness to self-expression in unexpected and authentic ways.

Kid X’s journey is one of continuous evolution, intentionality, and cultural pride. He remains rooted in who he is while embracing growth, an artist whose contribution to South African culture continues to resonate.
