Bio
Born Tawanda Chari, WaCharie, is an Afro Contemporary/Afro Traditional/Afro Fusion artist of great depth. He performs with his Six piece band called Shamwari Dzerwendo. He has amazing profound vocals, powerful acoustic guitar skills and is also a composer/songwriter.
His lyrics talk about everyday struggles, encouragement, hope, love, morality and everything else in between. Being also a mbira player and percussionist, his desire to learn as much about music is seen by his fusions of traditional grooves from different parts of the world, because he believes ‘Music is a tool that brings people together.’
WaCharie started performing live in 2014. His first public performance was in Capetown, South Africa at The Slave Church for a Heritage Concert with Shamie [Shamiso Mandebvu] of the famed duo; Shame n Nathan, after which he also played at Alive Café in Muizernburg and other local joints, marking the beginning of his Career.
WaCharie released his debut album Bumharutsva [https://www.newsday.co.zw/2018/03/wachari-shines-at-album-launch/] at Ora Helensvale, Borrowdale on the 9th of March 2018. He is inspired by his great love for music; the cure to all ailments in this life. And also draws inspiration from the giants in the music industry on both local and international turfs such as Oliver Mtukudzi, Willis Wataffi,Victor Kunonga and Lokua Kanza who are humble pacesetters.
The 28 year old is the first born in a family of three and is grateful for the support his widowed mother has given him together with the rest of the family in his musical career. It is the fuel that propels him to want to do better every day. Tawanda is a born again Christian who believes in morality and hard work. He projects growth and maturity in his products as he is working tirelessly to improve on his brand. He also possesses a deep interest in literature and fine art.
