SERRO
Bio
Serro is a Kenyan Afro-soul singer, songwriter, and storyteller whose music sits at the intersection of African rhythms and soulful melody. Deeply rooted in her cultural identity, she has built a distinctive sound that draws on Benga traditions, folk influences, and the textures of everyday Kenyan life, expressed through multiple African languages and Sheng. Her songwriting is intimate and unflinching, reflecting lived realities with the kind of honesty that turns personal stories into shared ones. With over 2 million streams within six months of her sophomore album Dusk to Dawn (2025), and a growing body of work that includes the Sondeka Award-winning debut album Kuwe (2020) and the critically praised EP Misimu (2022), Serro has established herself as one of the most compelling voices in contemporary Kenyan music.
Known for her explosive live performances - both solo and alongside her live band, The Charactaz, Serro commands every stage she steps onto. From headline slots at Oktoba Festival and Folk Fusion to her own annual signature events, Serro Live and Uani, she has built a live reputation that extends well beyond the music itself. Both events have become firm fan favourites, a testament to her rare ability to hold a room - drawing audiences back year after year not just for the songs, but for the experience she builds around them. Serro is as much a curator as she is a performer, and her shows reflect that dual instinct: intentional, immersive, and deeply felt.
At the heart of Serro's artistry is a profound commitment to storytelling. Her collaborations reflect the depth of her creative community - from Nitatua na Wewe with Osanya, Chizi with Onyach, and Presha and Hold On to the Faith with longtime collaborator Mutoriah, to Ole, a deeply personal record made alongside Coster Ojwang and her late father, Patrick Serro. That track stands as a testament to what makes her work endure: music as memory, as inheritance, as love made permanent.
