SA: Teka Works to stream immersive 360 concert
Teka Works will livestream a concert featuring a dynamic line-up including Spoek Mathambo, Laliboi, Batuk, Vukazithathe, Witney, Kojo Lion and Manyelo Dafro on 10 and 11 December at 6pm CAT.
The free-to-view concert will be streamed on the Batuk Facebook page and Spoek Mathambo’s Facebook page.
Aptly titled Teka 360, the five-hour showcase will feature contributions from accomplished musicians from South Africa, Mozambique and Ghana. The show will be filmed with 360 cameras, which will let viewers experience immersive live performances.
With the Teka 360 experience, music fans will get to enjoy the Xhosa hip hop of Laliboi alongside the township tech and Afro-house of Spoek Mathambo and Batuk, before going deep into the roots of maskandi maestro Vukazithathe and Ghanaian master percussionist Kojo Lion. The Teka crew will also be joined by the future soul of Witney and the Afro-tech stylings of Manyelo Dafro.
“We are excited to be working with great technicians and visionaries Shmerah Passhier, Phumlani Pikoli and Samukelo Mahlalela who will bring the vision of an immersive futuristic live show to life,” Spoek Mathambo said.
The aim of the TEKA 360 project is to give opportunities to musicians who have been harshly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic over the past few months, as well as offer a new perspective on live performance. The production is supported by the Music In Africa Live (MIAL) project, which assists musicians and the industry at large to navigate the challenges and new realities introduced by the COVID-19 pandemic. Covering all African countries, MIAL offers financial support to operators, to enable them to create high-quality productions and promote, market and showcase their content to a wider global audience – primarily via digital means.
