The initiative, certified by the University of Pretoria, seeks to equip emerging music entrepreneurs with the necessary skills and knowledge to navigate the evolving music industry.
According to SAMRO, the growing demand for structured industry training was reflected in a 34% increase in applications compared to the previous year. The selection process was overseen by an independent panel of adjudicators, who evaluated submissions based on industry experience and entrepreneurial potential. The chosen recipients include independent publishers managing artists, self-published musicians distributing their music digitally, and individuals with one to three years of experience in the industry.
The six-week programme provides comprehensive training in music publishing, revenue generation, product innovation, and entrepreneurship. Led by industry professionals Ninel Musson (Vth Season) and Beth Arendse (SA Creative Industries Incubator), the initiative aims to foster sustainable careers in music by offering practical insights and strategies for business growth.
MBL continues to focus on the professional development of Africa’s music industry through specialised training and incubation. SAMRO has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting emerging talent and enhancing the capabilities of the music sector.
The organisation expressed confidence in the impact of this year’s cohort and highlighted the programme’s role in strengthening Africa’s creative economy. The selected participants will now embark on their training, with SAMRO and MBL anticipating their contributions to the future of music publishing and entrepreneurship.
