The Skyz Metro FM Music Awards is the second such award event to be held in the city following the inaugural Bulawayo Arts Awards held in June this year. The organisers announced a total of 16 categories. In addition to receiving a gong, each winner will get some price money as commendation for contributing to the music industry.
The list of nominees will be produced from music released from 11 September 2016 - 11 September 2017.
Nomination process
The general public will nominate nominees for all awards via papers filled physically at the Skyz Metro FM offices, via call in on designated radio program segments and via online platforms listed by the station on its website. The Skyz Metro FM nomination committee of presenters, producers and managers will then sit and select nominees to contest each award.
Marketing manager of Skyz Metro FM Brezhnev Mathonsi told Music In Africa that the people’s choice awards will be decided by the people. “These will be done by the members of the public via physical ballot boxes and the phone.
“For the purposes of data management, the general awards will be conducted by selected adjudicators such as Skyz Metro FM listeners, owner of record labels, sound engineers and music journalists in the city. They will come with a list of winners under the general awards category.”
