The Buskers Collective

The Independent Artists Busking Project took flight last Friday at The Mazisi Kunene Museum, when a collective of Durban based arts professionals put action to their united goal of creating solutions out of the circumstances faced by the creative community.

The collective was formed after an idea was shared on Facebook by Simthandile, inviting associates to shift their focus onto informal methods of raising money to cover basic needs. It presented busking in public spaces, and crowdfunding to subsidize each busker with a food, cosmetics and cleaning items hamper. Artists have since signed up to perform, contributed towards equipment, skills and services, pledged funds and continue to do so.

Saturday we're inviting you to join us at The Denis Hurley Centre as we stage our 2nd activation. We are inviting solo or duos to list their names so that they make up the line-up, and we invite the public to join us for the wonderful and very free entertainment. There will be lots of competitions to test the knowledge of the audiences about the local creative industry, and fun prizes to be won.
