Zimbabwe Academy of Music

Bio

Zimbabwe Academy of Music was founded in 1949 in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. It is a non-profit making trust that was designed to promote and teach music to internationally recognised levels. The institution offers courses on a variety of instruments let alone incorporating a well-equipped School of Rock. The institute has 140 individual students who are mainly taught piano, violin, guitar and voice as brass.

In 2012, the academy expanded its ethnic music side and embarked on an outreach programme in Bulawayo’s western suburbs. It has a 400 seater hall called Robert Sibson. In May 2012, the institute launched a music project called ‘The Song of the Carnivores’. The project was conducted in partnership with Bulawayo schools and the Zoological Society of London. They received financial support from the British Friends of the Zimbabwe Academy of Music and the British Council.
