YinkaBernie (born YinkaOnaduja) is a Nigeriansoundartist, musicproducer, recordingartist, sounddesigner, andcreativeconsultant known for his genre-blending sonic work and multidisciplinary approach to art and community culture. He is based in Lagos, Nigeria, where he has become a prominent figure in contemporary alternative music and sound art.
Bernie grew up in Ibadan, OyoState, where his early love for music began with collecting CDs and making beats as a teenager. He began producing music around 2012 and fully committed to his artistic path during his university years in 2014–2015.
As an artist, Bernie’s sound is often described as calm, introspective, androotedinAfricanrhythms, with influences ranging from jazz and soul to Afrobeat pioneers like FelaKuti, and contemporary artists such as Masego and FKJ. His work frequently emphasizes emotional depth, vulnerability, and intricate soundscapes that blend traditional and modern elements.
Bernie’s discography includes his early experimental projects and well-received EPs such as 19 & Over (2017) and SomethingNew (2022), the latter featuring his widely acclaimed track “It’sOkayToCry”. He has also released collaborative projects and continued expanding his craft with projects like WhatHappensAfter.
Beyond his solo music, Yinka Bernie producedAmaarae’shitsingle “SadGirlsLuvMoney” and has contributed to sound design for art exhibitions, brands, and live tours.
Bernie is also the co-founderofEgwuRecords, a Lagos-based vinyl collective and indie music community that promotes physical media, hosts events, and champions a deeper connection to music culture. The collective hosted Nigeria’s first vinyl festival and continues to shape how music is experienced in his community.
In addition to music production, Bernie has expanded into soundartexhibitions, notably “MovingParts,” an immersive project capturing the dynamic auditory life of Lagos through field recordings and sound installation.
