Xisomisani
Bio
The Young Queen of Xitsonga Rap Xisomisani is a talented young rapper and singer from a small village in Limpopo, South Africa. She fell in love with music when she was only 10 years old and started writing her own rhymes at 14. Words come to her very easily, she says it feels like the lyrics just pour out of her mouth like poetry.
Her biggest influence is Sho Madjozi because of the way Sho proudly mixes Tsonga culture, bright colours, and strong rap in xitsonga language. Xisomisani also listens to American rappers like Nicki Minaj for confidence and flow, and local stars like Kwesta and Cassper Nyovest for storytelling. She wants to do the same thing for xitsonga rap that Sho Madjozi did, make the whole country dance and feel proud of the language.
Her style is very special. She raps only (or mostly) in xitsonga, fast and clear, over happy amapiano or Afrobeat rhythms. Her voice is sweet but strong, and she can switch from singing soft melodies to hard rap bars in the same song. She loves bright traditional Tsonga skirts and head-wraps on stage, just like Sho Madjozi, and her dances are full of energy and smiles.
Her songs talk about everyday life, school, friends, family, love, and growing up in the village, so every young person in Limpopo feels she is talking straight to them. Some of her most popular songs are “Dankie Vakokwani” (with Cool B), “Salimina”, “Ma 2000”, “Eka Monana” and “Famba Pota”. In 2019 she won Best Newcomer at the Limpopo Music Awards while she was still a teenager, and people started calling her the future of Xitsonga music.
Today she is still studying (she wants to become a lawyer one day), but she keeps making new music and performing. Xisomisani shows every girl from a small village that you can stay yourself, speak your language, wear your culture, and still shine on big stages. She is proof that the next big South African star can come from anywhere, even a quiet village in Limpopo.
