Republican

The Republican is a daily Namibian newspaper published in Afrikaans language. It is one of the largest Afrikaans dailies in terms of print circulation. The paper was founded by Dirk Mudge in December 1977 as a medium of the Republican Party of Namibia (RP). It became an unofficial organ of the Democratic Turnhalle Alliance (DTA) upon joining the DTA.

In 1991, Democratic Media Holdings (DMH) took over ownership of the paper. 1990, disputes between DTA and DMH ensued and the media house broke with the DTA in 1997. The republican has an online edition which mainly reflects the contents of the print version. The online version of the newspaper has additional contents such as video material and social media. In August 2011, the website had an estimated 65 000 unique page visits.
