Que DJ
Bio
Que DJ is a South African DJ and producer from KwaMashu in Durban. He is widely recognised as one half of Distruction Boyz, a duo that played a key role in taking Gqom from a local township sound to a national and international stage. Their breakout period introduced a new wave of hard, minimal and percussive dance music that shaped South Africa’s club culture.
As a solo artist, Que DJ has continued to refine and expand his style. He created the phrase We Don’t Play The Same Gqom as a way of describing his own approach to production and DJing. His solo work focuses on a darker and heavier strain of Gqom with deep bass and hypnotic rhythms that he refers to as Umkhunkulu.
Que DJ has released music that highlights his commitment to the core elements of Gqom while also pushing its edges. His sets remain grounded in the raw and driving sound that first introduced him to audiences. Over the years he has performed across South Africa and abroad, helping to position Gqom as a distinctive part of contemporary dance music.
He continues to work as both a producer and performer, contributing to the growth of the genre and the broader landscape of South African electronic music.
