Nara Couto
Bio
Nara Couto is a singer, songwriter, actress, dancer, artistic director and ancestral communicator.
She began her artistic career as a dancer. Influenced by the beats of the Afro group Ilê Aiyê, she performed in Balé Folclórico da Bahia from the age of 17 to 23. During her career as a dancer, she worked with artists such as Gilberto Gil, Margareth Menezes, Ivete Sangalo, Daniela Mercury, among others.
His musical career began as a backing vocalist, having accompanied some artists, including Daniela Mercury and Mateus Aleluia.
In 2009, already as a singer, she was one of the co-founders of the Afrosinfônica Orchestra, where she worked as mezzo soprano until 2018.
Her debut solo career began in 2017, with the release of the single "Linda e Preta", a song that became an anthem celebrating female beauty in black communities in Brazil.
Nara has one EP - Contipurania, 2018 and two recorded albums: Retinta 2022, sponsored by Natura Musical and Ori, 2024.
His latest work, Ori, featured the late Letieres Leite as musical director and guest appearances by Mateus Aleluia, Vovó Cici de Oxalá, Luedji Luna and Bloco Afro Ilê Ayê and was launched in July 2024 at Sesc Pompéia, with a full house in two days.
Between participations, collaborations and partnerships, Nara has worked with other artists, such as Lazzo Matumbi, Mu Mbana (Guinea Bissau), Jéssica Areias e Ary (Angola), Otis Selimane (Mozambique), Ellen Oléria, Bia Ferreira, Paula Lima, Majur, Hiran .
In addition to her record albums, Nara has other two projects:
Outras Africas - a project that aims to bring together African artists living inside and outside the country closer, strengthening relations between Brazil and Africa.
Águas - shows that pay reverence to the forces of the water and the feminine, which has been taking place for 5 years in February in Salvador and at corporate events.
