Bio
Jacob Radede Was born 16 April 1948 and passed on 21 August 1979, he was popularly known as Mpharanyana. He was born in Katlehong, the east-rand township in Gauteng South Africa. He was a singer-songwriter and guitarist. Mpharanyana had lent his talent to many bands such as The Peddlars, he was also lead singer for The Weavelets, in the 1960s he formed part of the Cannibals, with whom he recorded a lot of albums, in the Cannibals he was working alongside South African music greats such as Ray Chikapa Phiri and West Nkosi.
With the Canniballs and the Peddlars Mpharanya went on to record all his musical catalog, this included these albums Mpharanyana and The Cannibals - Highland Drifter ( Song composed by Ray Phiri in 1973), Mpharanyana and The Cannibals - Zion Soul (1976), Mpharanyana and The Cannibals - Disco Bump (1977), Mpharanyana and The Cannibals - Nka Nako Ho Motseba (1978), Mpharanyana and The Cannibals - Ulunywa Izinja (1979), Mpharanyana and The peddlers - Morena Re Thuse Kaofela (1979), Mpharanyana and The Peddlers - Hela Ngwanana (1979), Mpharanyana and The Peddlers - Hela Ngwanana (1979), Mpharanyana and The Peddlers - Tse Hlwahlwa (1980) and lastly.
Mpharanyana is regarded as the pioneers of the then popular genre, township soul because how they blended indigenous language lyrics over American style soul music, at times remaking popular American soul songs into Zulu or Sotho.
