Mbira

Mbira is a non-profit organization that helps to sustain the ancient music traditions of Zimbabwe. It’s known for supporting Zimbabwean musicians, instrument makers and their families, through the promotion of the country’s music education, recordings and performances. Mbira has arguably created the largest archive of Shona mbira music in the world.

It was incorporated in the State of California as a non-profit corporation in 1998.

Erica Azim directs the day-to-day activities of Mbira through teaching and organizing workshops and performances.
