Mamsie Tsosane

Bio

Mamsie Tsosane (born Lydia Mamsie Tsosane) is a jazz singer, songwriter and sound engineer from South Africa.

Tsosane realised her passion for music and arts at an early age, which led to her entering talent search shows and also singing in church. She later teamed up with a township jazz band, performing in national jazz festivals like The Joy Of Jazz and performing at Kippies where she shared the stage and opened for well known South African artists such as Judith Sephuma, Abigail Kubheka, Ringo Madlingozi, among others, and has also performed at Galas, weddings and community halls.

The jazz musician was discovered by the Umoja Cast in 2003 and was asked to join them in their company, which led to a 3 year relationship with the company touring Europe and Asia. During her employment with the cast she was approached to collaborate with few recording artist and that’s when her songwriting and lyricist skills came in.

In her spare time she formed a band and would fly to different countries when she could to perform. The musician also teamed up with The Baltic Soul Weekender as Head Vocalist and assistant Orchestra manager. Scheduling rehearsals, with backing vocalist for the likes of Omar from UK to Leon Ware, Adiva, the Sugar Hill Gang from USA and facilitating the vocal side of a 3 day festival which took place each year in April at the Baltic Sea.

Tsosane worked with Hamburg’s well know television station Hamburg 1 as a voice over artist and worked on two Hollywood movies with them, synchronizing in German. During her stay in Germany she learnt a number of skills including sound engineering and music production and released two singles under her name.

She also worked on various short contracts comprising Afrika Afrika, The power Of Sister Acts, Once On This Island, among others. Tsosane recently moved back to South Africa and has released to more singles and is studying in a course in business management. She believes that the sky is the limit.
