Lwah Ndlunkulu

Born Lwandile Mtshali on 11 April 2000 in Hluhluwe, KwaZulu-Natal, Lwah Ndlunkulu is one of the most captivating voices in South African Afro-pop. Her rise to prominence reflects both musical talent and a deep connection to her cultural roots.

Lwah began her professional journey in 2021 when she signed with Inkabi Records. She gained early recognition with her debut single ‘Ithuba’ featuring Siya Ntuli, which was certified Platinum by the Recording Industry of South Africa. Her heartfelt vocals and lyrical sensitivity quickly distinguished her within the South African music landscape.

In January 2023, she released ‘Ngiyeza’, a single that tops national charts and also achieves Platinum status. The song cements her reputation as a powerful storyteller, combining emotive delivery with soulful melodies. In November 2023, she released her debut studio album Imizwa, which debuts at number one on Spotify’s Top Albums Chart and earns more than two million streams within ten days. The album’s success marks her as a defining voice of her generation.

Her sound blends Afro-pop, soul and traditional Zulu influences. Her music explores love, perseverance and self-discovery while celebrating the emotional depth of everyday experiences. Listeners are drawn to her sincerity and her ability to translate personal experiences into universal messages of hope and resilience.

In 2023, she became one of the most celebrated artists at the Basadi in Music Awards, leading with four nominations and winning Artist of the Year. This recognition highlighted her growing influence and her ability to connect with audiences across South Africa.

After relocating to Johannesburg to pursue her career, Lwah continued to draw inspiration from her KwaZulu-Natal upbringing. Her work reflects a balance between rural grounding and urban sophistication.
