Justin Case
Bio
Justin Case is a Johannesburg-based DJ and producer known for his eclectic selections and deep-rooted connection to both local and international music scenes. With a sound that moves fluidly between hip-hop, R&B, jazz, experimental club music, and progressive rap, Justin Case has developed a reputation for dynamic, culturally grounded sets that reflect the pulse of Johannesburg’s underground.
A significant milestone in his career was his residency with NTS Radio as part of the Work In Progress (WIP) programme in 2021/22. The NTS WIP initiative supports emerging artists through mentorship, performance opportunities, studio access, and guest radio shows. During this period, Justin shared his evolving sound with international audiences while strengthening his artistic identity. He has also remained actively involved with Cape Town’s The Other Radio platform and contributed an online mix for Michigan-based Sometimes Sound in 2023.
In Johannesburg, Justin regularly DJs for cultural events and exhibitions at Grayscale Store & Gallery, a key space within the city’s creative and street culture ecosystem. His sets often blend local hip-hop textures with the influence of Joburg’s graffiti movement, alternative club sounds, and diasporic rhythms.
Throughout his career, Justin Case has performed alongside respected selectors such as DJ Bubbles and DJ Bob, marking important highlights in his live performance journey. His collaborative network spans multiple genres, including work with Zapsign Deebo of Iapetus Records, vocalist Serurubele, Johnny Wxlf, and Kaalvoet Prinses. He has also shared stages with emcees Tony Dangler, Illy Amin, D-Stxinz, Puma + Roses, and Certified Genius.
In August 2025, Justin featured on Planet Africa, delivering an eclectic hour of progressive new rap, R&B, UK club sounds, experimental production, and jazz. Earlier, in August 2021, he was connected to the NTS Work In Progress programme alongside artists such as Queen Black Acid, further embedding him within a network of forward-thinking musicians.
Beyond DJ performances, Justin Case has contributed to visual music culture. In December 2023, the official music video for Ngoma Yase Phesheya – 2nd Natur(e) Remix (off the Angel Music Remix LP by AnAkA) premiered. The video, directed and edited by Elijah Ndoumbe and filmed on location at Sodefitex in Dakar, Senegal, showcased the intersection of music, fashion, choreography, and visual storytelling within contemporary African creative scenes.
Through radio, live performance, collaboration, and visual projects, Justin Case continues to shape a sound that bridges Johannesburg’s street culture with global experimental music spaces. His work reflects an ongoing commitment to pushing sonic boundaries while remaining rooted in community-driven creative practice.
