International Centre for African Music and Dance (ICAMD) (University of Ghana)

Bio

Founded in 1992 at the University of Ghana, International Centre for African Music and Dance (ICAMD) is an archive that focuses on the development of materials and programmes in African music and dance. ICAMD provides a platform for archival documentation and study centre for African music and dance. It promotes and coordinates research in creative projects in music and dance.

The Centre operates as a unit within the School of Performing Arts which offers diploma and degree courses in music, dance and drama. In addition to this, visiting scholars and students affiliated to the centre are be able to avail themselves to the classes given by the traditional musicians and dance instructors of the school as well as the facilities of the reference library of the Institute of African Studies.

Scholars and artists from other African countries can register with the University of Ghana as affiliates or associates of the centre.
