Bio

“Music has the power to change lives.” A true statement that I have come to understand more and more at each stage of my music learning. It’s because of this transformative power of music, that I chose to be a musician. Growing up, the main exposure that I had of music was worship music. My dad was a keyboardist and guitarist. He had taught various church choirs and played in a number of churches here in Tanzania. I was 14 when he gave me my first piano lesson. Most of what I know and play today are a result of his influences on me as I grew up watching and hearing him play. And so clearly, someone would assume that am most passionate about gospel music and that would be correct. At the core of every note, every melody I play sits the passion and desire for worship. That is, seeing my music change the lives of other people, showing them the beauty in knowing and understanding music, and ultimately drawing them closer to God. This is not through forcing my beliefs and ideas onto people through my music, it’s through showing them the beauty of what I do and the changes that faith can bring into a person’s life.
As a student of music, I am very passionate in music education, music production, sound engineering, and music composition. That is to say, I love making music and working on all the processes that music goes through to reach an audience and at that point, am even more interested in teaching it to people. I am currently learning music production and live sound from an online course, and am finding my way through Finale too. In addition to that, I have substantial knowledge of two Digital Audio Workstations (DAW) software which are Logic Pro and FL Studio.
While in secondary school I developed a new hobby that changed my aspirations, Music production. I had just gotten a new computer and some software I could use to make songs. From that, I was able to make 2 songs from my bedroom. These songs were; an instrumental pop song called ‘Keep on Running’ and a Christian hip-hop song called ‘Raise Em up’. From that point, my interest in music production grew and led me to a new interest in sound engineering. I have had a number of experiences in regards to these two from personal interest and learning, church, but also from the resources at the university. I have been able to produce about 4 tracks while at the university. I have made a soundtrack for a short film here in Arusha. And I usually make musical sequences for the choir and praise team at my church back at home. I also recently attended a live sound training program here at the Cultural Arts Centre (CAC), where I got hands-on experience and training on various aspects of sound designing and set up.
