Pamela Hlabangwana, Born in 1996 Soweto South Africa, she is professionally known as Genre Mela, she is a dynamic South African vocalist whose rich, soulful voice reflects a deep-rooted musical journey that began in the heart of Soweto. Genre Mela was raised in a Christian household, her earliest musical memories were shaped by the sounds of American gospel legends such as The Winans, Kim Burrell, and Fred Hammond. These powerful influences laid the foundation for her expressive vocal style and unwavering passion for music.
Genre Mela began singing at the age of 8 and has never looked back. Her love for gospel soon expanded when her grandmother and neighbour introduced her to jazz and R&B, genres that would further shape her vocal identity during family gatherings and special Occasions.
From 2010 to 2014, Genre Mela refined her talent at the prestigious National School of the Arts in Johannesburg, where she trained in music and performance. In 2018, she joined the world-renowned Soweto Gospel Choir, marking a major milestone in her career. With the choir, she has performed on global stages, including the Global Citizen Festival, where she shared platforms with music giants such as Peter Gabriel, Wizkid, Chris Martin, and Beyoncé.
Genre Mela’s versatility and commanding vocal presence earned her a place in the "History of House" project led by Groove Terminator in Australia. Over the course of nearly four years, she toured with the ensemble and became a key contributor to the 2024 History of House album, co-produced by Groove Terminator and Latroit. Her name appears in the album credits, and she performs choir parts on standout tracks such as "Pride (A Deeper Love)", "Free", and others-merging gospel soul with high-energy house anthems.
