Christoph the change

Bio

Christopher Nyenga (born 10 April 1993), professionally known as Christoph The Change, is a leading Liberian rapper and songwriter. He is widely regarded as a transformative figure in the Hipco movement, credited with bringing the genre into the mainstream through high-energy performances and a “hustler” narrative that resonates with Liberia’s youth.

Early Life and Background
Born and raised in Monrovia, Christoph attended St Matthew United Methodist High School. Growing up in post-war Liberia, his lyrics often reflect a childhood shaped by economic hardship and a determination to succeed against the odds. He frequently describes himself as having a “beast mode” mentality — a commitment to hard work and resilience that has made him a role model for many.

Career Evolution
Christoph began his career performing traditional American-style hip-hop. However, his early track “Take a Break” was criticised by local audiences for being “too American” and disconnected from Liberian culture.

The Hipco Pivot
After embracing local dialects and rhythms, he achieved widespread success with songs such as “Papay God”, “Heaven and Hell” and “Gbanna Man”. By the early 2020s, he had become a dominant force in the Liberian music industry, earning accolades including “Hipco Artist of the Year” and “Best Artist” at various national awards.

Major Milestones and Achievements
In July 2025, Christoph made history by becoming the first Liberian musician to headline and fill the Samuel Kanyon Doe (SKD) Stadium, performing to an audience of over 30,000 fans. The event is widely regarded as a landmark moment for Liberia’s music industry.

He is also the CEO of Massive Entertainment Music Group (MEMG), his independent label and branding house, through which he continues to shape his career and support emerging talent.

Nicknames
He is affectionately known by fans as “The Ue Dem Bonnie Dust” and “Musical Jorweah”.

Recent Developments
As of 2026, Christoph remains an influential and sometimes controversial figure within the Liberian entertainment landscape, continuing to evolve both artistically and culturally.
