Centre for Jazz and Popular Music

Situated at the University of Kwazulu-Natal (UKZN), the Centre for Jazz and Popular Music provides information and fields general enquiires regarding Durban's music scene, presenting live music of interest to locals and tourists every Wednesday at 5:15pm during term time at its Howard College Theatre.

The centre also offers avenue for meetings, educational projects, workshops, rehearsals and performances; initiates visits from internationally known musicians, educational exchanges, international touring for senior students, musicians and staff; organises concerts, annual festivals and conferences; arranges bands for all occasions; cooperates with foreign embassies, patrons, commercial sponsors, Durban Arts Association, International Association of Jazz Educators, South African Association of Jazz Educators, Artworks Trust, Departments of Arts & Culture and Foreign Affairs; fundraises for scholarships to study jazz, participation in overseas and local cultural events and to support itself; and benefits the city, the university, cultural organisations, bands and individual musicians.
