Bio

Based in Cape Town, South Africa, Centre for Advanced Studies of African Society (CASAS) is known for providing a platform for the publication of papers on indigenous African music. It aims to contribute on the development and study of African music and global culture. In doing so, CASAS started a journal named Archive of African Ethnomusicology (AAE). The journal will consist of a continuous series of papers on African music, with a strong focus on indigenous African music, African court music, ritual music, religious music and composition/music theory.

CASAS recognized the need to provide a platform for the publication of papers on serious African music, as a contribution towards strengthening its knowledge, collective memory and consolidating its contribution to the development and study of African music and global culture. In this endeavour, they have found it necessary to start a journal named Archive of African Ethnomusicology (AAE), which will consist of a continuous series of papers on African music, especially: indigenous African music; African court music; ritual music; religious music and composition/music theory, etc.

CASAS’ mission is to undertake through its network, fundamental research on African Society, which is published as part of their Book/Monograph/Occasional Paper and Notes & Records Series on themes and topics which fit their mandate.
