Brian Bomba

Bio

The Soulful Storyteller of Xitsonga R&B Brian Bomba, born Brian Kubayi on April 29, 1989, in the culturally rich town of Malamulele under the Collins Chabane Local Municipality in Limpopo Province, South Africa, is an award-winning South African musician, producer, composer, and songwriter renowned for his fusion of Xitsonga soul, R&B, and African pop. Raised in a deeply musical family by his late mother, Madya ku Bomba, an acclaimed Xitsonga traditional musician whose legacy profoundly shaped his artistic path, Brian was immersed from childhood in the rhythms of Shangaan and Tsonga traditions, blending them with contemporary influences like Oliver Mtukudzi, Ringo Madlingozi, and global soul icons. Growing up as the son of a single mother who was a legend in Xitsonga traditional music, he channeled personal hardships into heartfelt lyrics that explore love, identity, and cultural pride, emerging as a self-proclaimed storyteller whose smooth vocals and emotive melodies resonate across Mzansi and the African diaspora. With a career spanning over a decade, Brian has become a beacon for Xitsonga R&B, using his platform to honor his roots while pushing genre boundaries, amassing a dedicated following through platforms like Spotify (where he boasts 4.8K monthly listeners) and his active presence on social media.

Brian's discography is a vibrant testament to his evolution, marked by hits that capture the essence of Limpopo's soulful soundscapes and have garnered widespread acclaim. His breakthrough track "Yellow Bone" (2018) became an instant fan favorite, a relatable ode to love and admiration that exploded across South Africa, shifting his trajectory toward national recognition and cementing his signature "Rethym" style, a unique blend of African soul grooves and R&B introspection. Other standouts include "Nsati Wa Mina," "Malume," and collaborative gems like "N'wa Mapiki Na Fosholo" (feat. Cool B), "Xikwembu Xikulu," and "I Believe In Love" (feat. Mthimbani & Vuyelwa), available on streaming giants like Apple Music and Boomplay. After a period of hiatus to realign his creative vision, Brian staged a triumphant comeback in 2023 with the 16-track album Ride or Die, a shift toward deeper African soul and R&B themes of love, history, and unity, produced with talents like Sumthyn Black and designed for electrifying live performances. Tracks from the album, such as "Ka Titimela," "Woni Jikela," and "Masocha ya Moya," continue to dominate playlists, while features like "Vati Vutisa" (ft. ATM Maschine) highlights his collaborative spirit, drawing millions of streams and reinforcing his role as a pioneer of Xitsonga soul.

Beyond the studio, Brian Bomba is a cultural advocate and community pillar, using his music to foster unity within the Tsonga (Gaza) nation and amplify African narratives on global stages. His 2025 appearance on Channel Africa's African Diaries, alongside producer Metro Beatz SA, delved into how Tsonga communities rally around their artists, emphasizing rooted identity and communal love, an ethos he lives through mentorship and live shows that bridge rural Limpopo with urban Johannesburg. As a multifaceted creator who balances production with performance, Brian remains committed to healing and inspiring through song, often dedicating his work...
