Blue Knight

Matthews Banda, best known by his stage name Blue Knight is a Zambian born musician who was raised in Malawi. He is also an actor, writer and producer. Matthews was orphaned at a young age and was raised by his grandmother. He uses music as a medium to reach out to young people who are going through hard situations. He wishes to inspire them not to give up and abstain from drinking alcohol and taking drugs. He uses life experiences in his music. He draws his musical inspiration from a number of African and U.S. hip-hop artists he listened to growing up. Matthews believes that if community radio and other media outlets keep playing and supporting local music then certain stereotypes around hip-hop and even issues around young women getting involved in music can be changed in a positive way. He has produced a few tracks through local producers and hosts live events in Karonga.
