Bio

The Somalia Collections is a collection of recorded music archives by Blake Robinson. The collection features recordings of Somali poetry, songs, and dance collections.

There are eight 7-inch tapes of poetry, songs and dances of Somaliland including recordings of the Somali-Bantu people during the Dabshid period and poems read and or sung by Farah Elmi Ali. Robinson did the recordings from 2 - 4 August 1959. The collection includes descriptions of the poems and states the authors and performers. There is also an article from the magazine Culturefront entitled ‘Somalia: Land of Poetry’.

The collection is housed at the Library of Congress, Washington D.C. in the U.S.
