Gontse Matloa now going by the name AWe dBL, he was brought up in what was once known as 'The City of Jazz' (Pretoria), soaking up these influences in his formative years. Residing close to a township known as Mamelodi (Mother of Melodies), this child of the drum beat introduces us to his flavour of what would today be called: Chill Hop. With its trademark melodies and soothing production, layered with a sampling selection and keyboard playing - reminiscent of J Dilla, Madlib, 9th Wonder, Pete Rock and DJ Premier, but with a flavour all his own. This introduction is the herald of a future legend, who stays tapped into the essence of Hip Hop and his own artistic expression that can be felt through the soulful mirror of his beats project, for a nostalgic feel of the best the genre has to offer.
