Bio

Mathias 'Matty' Julius is a multi-talented singer, dancer, choreographer and composer. His artistic career began in the 1990s, when he joined Zimbabwe's renowned Tumbuka Dance Company. In addition to his numerous international appearances with Tumbuka, he featured as a dancer in Oliver Mtukudzi's music video 'Perekedza Mwana'.

Mathias has gone on to become one of the hottest musical acts in Zimbabwe in recent years. His music draws on a variety of influences, ranging from traditional and popular Zimbabwean music to reggae, dub and hip-hop, and represents the very best of Zimbabwe's young, urban music scene. His lyrics are typically about social awareness, respect, love and compassion. Over the years he has stamped his authority in the music industry by releasing songs like 'Don’t Look Back', 'Here I Come' and the hit 'Pahushamwari Hwedu', a collaboration with other reggae artists such as Mannex Motsi, Lady Thanda, Kalabash, Cello Culture, Mary Motsi, Chaza, J.Farai, and Lady Squanda. He also produced the hit song 'Twenty Ten' (2010), a collaboration with Oliver Mtukudzi dedicated to Tuku’s late son. Currently based in the UK, in 2014 he released a new single, 'Matty Luv'.
