Tatenda Chioniso Rushwaya
Bio
Tatenda Chioniso Rushwaya is a self motivated, fun-loving singer, songwriter, instrumentalist and creative entrepreneur born on 28 August 1994 and raised in Harare, Zimbabwe. Her passion for music began at a very young age, leading her to enroll at the Zimbabwe College of Music in 2016, where she studied Theory of Music as a part time student.
With a growing love for live performance and cultural expression, Chioniso expanded her focus to curating music events, organizing unforgettable experiences and mentoring emerging artists in instrumental playing.
In April 2022, she released her debut single You Are With Me. That same year, she launched Dzidza Hub an artist training initiative dedicated to empowering creatives through education in mbira, acoustic guitar, percussion, voice, and marimba. Dzidza is more than a training center, it’s a community.
Chioniso also founded Ku-Mbira Lounge, a social music event that celebrates Zimbabwe’s mbira tradition while blending in faith based storytelling, poetry, dance, and other art forms. Ku-Mbira Lounge is not just a show, it is an experience that nurtures deep connection between artists and audiences.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, she has offered private mbira and acoustic guitar lessons to both children and adults. She currently works as a part time music instructor at Kufunda Village School and a full time events organizer collaborating with diverse artists.
Driven by her passion for music and event curation, Chioniso has honed her stage management skills through hands on experience with some of Zimbabwe’s most prominent festivals and concerts. Her portfolio includes the Stanbic Jacaranda Music Festival, Shoko Festival, Ngoma neHosho events (including the Joe Thomas concert), Flame Lily Rock Music Festival, Alliance Française music showcases, and the Zimbabwe Jazz Festival, among others. Known for her punctuality, professionalism and energy, she continues to inspire through teaching, curating and performing.
