SA: ACT announces scholarship winners
South Africa’s Arts & Culture Trust (ACT) has unveiled the four winners of the 2017 edition of the trust’s scholarship grant. The announcement was made at the Market Theatre in Johannesburg at the weekend.
The 12 finalists, who spent a week working with specialist coaches, travelled to Johannesburg in the hope of winning a scholarship to pursue their dreams. The finalists, three in each category, had the chance to show off their talent in front of a live audience and impress a panel of well-respected judges.
“We were genuinely blown away by the phenomenal talent at the ACT, Nedbank and DALRO [Dramatic, Artistic and Literary Rights Organisation] Scholarships last night (7 October),” a post on the ACT Facebook page reads.
“A big well done to all the talented South African superstars who blew us away with their singing, dancing, acting and musical theatre capabilities.”
The winners, all aged 18, will receive R50 000 ($3 700) to study their performing arts subject at any tertiary institution in South Africa, as well as the chance to be represented by the Canvas CAM talent agency.
