Launched in 2018, the First on SoundCloud programme invests in the growth of rising voices across various genres and has helped propel rising acts who first launched their careers on the platform, such as 2020 alumna DJ Cuppy.
Nezi Momodu secured a place alongside eight other emerging artists, including EKKSTACY (Canada), Isabella Lovestory (Honduras), Kelow LaTesha (US), KenTheMan (US), Pote Baby (US), riela (US), ROSEMARIE (US) and TITUS (US).
This year’s participating artists will work directly with SoundCloud to strengthen artist-to-fan connections while enabling unique opportunities to reach new audiences.
“This group of nine artists, each with their own sounds and identities, represent the next wave of stars in music on the cusp of breakout success – from breakout rapper KenTheMan to alt-rock inspired TITUS,” SoundCloud vice-president of global artist and label partnerships Erika Montes said.
“Like so many of today’s most influential artists first discovered on SoundCloud, these emerging artists are growing their communities and connections with day-one fans on the platform. The First on SoundCloud programme is about that unique journey, and we and we can’t wait to create new opportunities with them to amplify their careers and share memorable experiences with their fans on SoundCloud and beyond.”
Nezi Momodu’s music is typically steeped in hip hop and is popular for her freestyles. With her craft, she aims to encourage younger generations to “let their work speak for themselves.” The artist, who doubles up as a painter, is behind 2017’s Seasons and The Endless Hour: Volume 1 (2018). Her latest album The Pound is due this year.
