Call for auditions: Zindala Zombili African Music and Festival in SA
The organisers of Zindala Zombili African Music and Festival, in association with the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, are calling on South African traditional groups to submit videos ahead of the event to be held digitally sometime this year.
Successful groups will be contacted via telephone, WhatsApp or email and will perform at the festival. The Zindala Zombili African Music and Festival stage crew will visit the locations of the successful groups in each province on a prearranged day.
A national panel of judges will adjudicate all submitted videos and select the best three groups per province to be filmed for the event. The winning group will receive a R10 000 ($670) performance prize fee from the National Department of Sport, Arts and Culture and Zindala Zombili Productions.
Requirements
To audition for the festival, the following is required:
- Applicants must send two videos of themselves performing two different renditions for approximately three minutes each.
- The performances must be traditional music and dance. Entrants should not use any electrical instruments.
- The videos must not be more than one month old.
- Videos must be recorded with good cellphones and high-quality cameras.
- Entrants should make sure there is enough light on the group when recording. They should hold the phone on its side at shoulder height so that it looks like a TV screen. They should begin with a wide shot for about one minute and then slowly move in closer to see the performing members better.
- Groups are only allowed to enter once.
- The submitted videos should not be edited as any reworked video will be disqualified.
- Videos should be submitted on the following WhatsApp number: 071 559 4259.
The submission deadline is 27 February.
