Hendrick Monyeki Live at Doppio Zero Rosebank

As we welcome spring, it is time to put on our dancing shoes and bounce into the new season with
good music, refined African Cuisine, and a drink that complements the mood. Join Hendrick Monyeki
a South African-born artist, one of the only jazz crooners in South Africa today.
Henrick will be singing the ballads with a distinctive mellow tenor at the Doppio Zero Rosebank ; Live
Music, a destination for Refined African Cuisine and Live Music.
Monyeki is a professional and qualified musician who holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Unisa
as well as qualifications from the Musical Academy of Gauteng and the Royal School of Music in
London. He has worked with several seasoned musicians and jazz legends such as Ernest "Stompie"
Manana, Barney Rachabane, Khaya Mahlangu, Sydney Mavundla, and Prince Lengoasa. His latest
project titled Kofifi will be staged at the Leano.
He will be performing with his 11-piece Band transporting the flavour of Kofifi Night. The name Kofifi
was inspired by Sophia town which is a suburb of Johannesburg, flashing sophisticated jazz music
that was a legendary black culture destroyed under apartheid together with places like Ladyselborn
in Pretoria. The early part of the 20th century saw the increasing urbanisation of black South
Africans in industrial centres around Pretoria and Johannesburg. This led to the development of
township slums or ghettos, and out of this hardship came forth new forms of lifestyle amongst
others.

Hendrick and his Band will be taking the audience down memory lane covering a kaleidoscope of
local songs of the legendary late Miriam Makeba, Dorothy Masuka and the world-renowned Caiphus
Semenya and Abigail Kubeka and some of his compositions. The night will be filled with memories of
the Forerunners of Jazz music developed in South Africa with a soulful style, creating a unique and
vibrant night in the restaurant. Being one of the youngsters to transport South African jazz to be
more popular than ever, unremittingly bringing it to new life and using Jazz music to connect with
history in fresh and innovative ways that wins the ears of jazz fans across the globe.

‘It is an honour and a privilege to get to be part of the Jazz journey, being able to take audiences on
an expedition of melodies and harmonies that has contributed immensely to South African music.
Jazz to me is a rhythm that is a heartbeat to music, ‘ said Henrick Monyeki.

Hendrick Monyeki Live at Doppio Zero  show will take place on Friday, the 4th of November  2022 from 8pm at Doppio Zero in Rosebank.
