Royalty collection – Africa's biggest enemy?
According to CISAC’s 2017 Global Collections Report, royalty collections in Africa are still less than 1% (€67 million) of global collections. With relatively low levels of internet penetration and challenging conditions for copyright holders in some countries, this is a critical time for African creators in terms of earning potential in a rapidly growing digital market. How to unlock that potential and create a fair legal environment for artists? How can African creators promote and protect their rights to ensure they are fairly remunerated in a globalised world? These are some of the questions this panel will attempt to answer.
