Katanga Junior and Band
Bio
Born and raised in Arusha, Tanzania but now calling Mparntwe (Alice Springs) in Australia's Northern Territory home, Katanga Junior is an exciting, charismatic artist who has captivated audiences across the Territory since arriving four years ago.
Seamlessly integrating himself into the local music scene, Junior has developed a dedicated fan base thanks to his distinctively deep voice, smooth flow and multilingual lyrics.
Incorporating hip-hop, reggae, ragga and indie-folk sounds, Katanga cannot be pigeonholed as a creative and audiences love him all the more for it. 2023 was a HUGE year for Katanga recording his collaborative album Pamoja, headlining Wide Open Space Festival, winning Best Live Voice at the NT heat of the National Live Music Awards and taking out three spots in the top 10 of the Territory Sounds Countdown. 2024 looks set to be even bigger off the back of the release of Pamoja, with an interstate tour featuring spots on coveted line-ups including Nannup Music Festival and WOMADelaide and the second single off the album, Move, being named the Blues N Roots Song of the Year at the 2024 NT Music Awards. Coming up, Katanga Junior and Band supporting The Cat Empire at the closing of the iconic Darwin Festival.
