Huntley Archive - Electric Jive

The Electric Jive website is a South African archive well-known for collecting vinyl records with a focus on the country’s music. Its collection includes music from many other African countries. Ian Bruce Huntley is the copyright holder of both the photographs and recorded music shared on this website. Huntley, through the Electric Jive website, is on a mission to have interested musicians, scholars and jazz fans to freely access and celebrate the achievements of generation musicians.

The website includes more than 1 500 South African jazz-related images and sounds preserved in excess of 56 hours of reel-to-reel audio performed in Cape Town during the period 1964-1974. The full audio archive on the website is available for free download, record requests are also welcomed.

There are a number of unidentified recordings on the site and some that may be incorrectly identified. The site welcomes visitors to leave comments and corrections.
