Hilary More

Bio

Hilary More is a talented Tanzanian musician, multi instrumentalist, live performer and leading singer in his band. Hillary’s music is one of its kind due to his style of using dishware, intuiting animals’ voices along with drums sounds produced by his mouth and cheeks. Hilary’s Music is further identified by his passion of performing with his tradition music instrument known as calabash (his main musical instrument) whenever he is on stage.

BRIEF LIFE HISTORY

Born in 16th November 1986 at Temeke district-Dar-es-salaam, The 6th child in a family of eight children and raised single mother and Grandmother in normal income family. Hilary’s talent surfaced since his childhood whereby he drummed empty gallons and buckets while singing to his peer at school and home, though he did not
get chance of budding his talent at that time.

MUSIC

However, in 2007, Hilary had a job opportunity at Dodoma university in Dodoma, Tanzania as painter where he also decided to shift from Dar es Salaam by that time, it was during that time when he met one of the most Tanzanian known musician by the name Bushoke. Bushoke saw Hilary’s when he was serving T.O.T band as solo and tumba band player which was his part time job. Bushoke invited him to his band which performed in different hotels in Arusha and Dar-es-salaam.
In 2008, Hilary joined Fimbo band as solo as a solo musician whereby he supported band to take part during Tamasha la kale contest. It was during this competition, when Cocodo band saw Hilary who was also a solo artist who contested and win during the same contest, Cocodo Band approached him to be one of their band members as he agreed and worked with the band for about ten years.

Currently, Hilary runs his own band which is known as Afro Carribean Band which regularly performs in multiple concerts, festivals and hotels in Tanzania and abroad.

ATTAINMENT

1. 2014: His song under Cocodo band was selected during Kilimanjaro Tanzania Music Awards as the best song under the best traditional song of the year.

2. 2015: One of the artists who performed during the Smart partnership event where the 44th president of USA Mr. Barrack Obama was one of the attendees.

3. 2016: Two of his songs Gwemwana mambo and Mboni which he sang with Cocodo band
are both used as sound tracks of Sun shine movie which was produced by Collaboration
of people from Tanzania and USA.

4. 2018: Establishment of his own band *Hillary More Band* and later changed it's name to Afro Caribbean Band(current one).
