The Herald

Bio

The Herald is a government owned daily newspaper published in Harare, Zimbabwe. Its origins date back to the 19th century. Back then, the publication was a weekly, hand-written news sheet produced using the cyclostyle duplicating process.

It became a printed newspaper and changed its name to The Rhodesia Herald. In 1981, when the country attained independent, the government bought the publication and established the Zimbabwe Mass Media Trust to control them. The Trust created Zimbabwe Newspapers Ltd as the publisher of the papers. The paper is one of the publications that are credited for allowing the coverage of the country’s entertainment industry. It features analysis of the music industry from writer such as Professor Zindi who specialized in music.

The newspaper has on several occasions been criticized by the civil society for reporting biased news in favor of ruling part ZANU-PF.
