Helen O'Grady Drama Academy

Bio

The Helen O'Grady Drama Academy is an arts organisation that was originally founded in 1979 in Australia. It was founded when Helen O'Grady, a trained teacher, drama teacher and actress, hired a hall and commenced affordable after school drama classes for young people from 5-18 years of age.

Her legacy continues and the Helen O'Grady Drama System has now become the largest worldwide drama school of its kind. With an extensive curriculum, dynamic teachers and easily accessible venues, this is a truly community-based organisation, with a strong emphasis on the care of all its students.

Not only do children get expert training in dance, singing and acting but they also learn how to sustain and complete an ambitious project in a week. In 2015, the academy performed the musical production ‘Hood’ by Geoff Bamber’, an outstanding and one of the longest and hardest musicals completed to date. Children as young as 5 years and as old as 18, take part in these musical ventures by the academy. Unlike many productions, there are no auditions involved and every single child has a main part to play.
