Garth Erasmus

Garth Erasmus is an activist-musician for South African First Nation Rights. He constructs and plays instruments based on Khoisan indigenous knowledge systems and is a member of the band of First Nation activists, Khoi Khonnexion. He is also an important artist in free jazz and free improvisation scene in Cape Town playing his self-made instruments but also saxophone and electronics.

During the Covid-19 lockdown he organized the series of online improvisations called Africa Open Improvising. His electronics-centric ensemble is Gwaing and his free jazz ensemble is Riempie Vasmaak.
