Cape Gate Miagi Centre For Music (CMCM)

Bio

The CMCM is a centre for music education run by the NGO MIAGI (Music Is A Great Investment), located at Morris Isaacson High School in Soweto. Its early music training programme runs at pre-schools and daycare centres in Soweto, including Siyacathula Day Care, Asha Pre-School, Peaceful Day Care, Salvation Army Crèche, Seoding Pre School and Morris Isaacson Crèche. Apart from playful singing and dancing, the participating children are offered elementary music literacy training. Instruments introduced include pennywhistles, xylophones and djembes.

The centre aims to create interest in music at an early stage and to discover and support especially talented children living in the area. In a few years time it is hoped that many of the children will be enrolled at the centre for private as well as group tuition in an array of subjects and instruments. Currently instruments and subjects taught at the CMCM include voice, pennywhistle, guitar, recorder, piano, violin, cello, percussion, trumpet and music theory as well as the newly established CMCM Choir. Many of the students are studying at the Morris Isaacson High School, where MIAGI hopes to create a music faculty in collaboration with partners.
