Cama Gwini

Bio

Cama Gwini is a singer known for favouring traditional Xhosa influences and spiritual themes over commercial trends. Armed with an inimitable, at times controversial, sense of style, she first rose to fame in 2007 with the release of her debut album 'Zivile' was released in 2007, earning SAMA nominations for two Best newcomer and Best African Contemporary in 2008. She was invited to tour London and France in 2008, and then Germany and Holland in mid-2009, at the same time releasing 'Emandulo (Ancient Times)'. In 2010 she was nominated for Female Art of the Year at the SAMAs.

In 2012 she was rumoured to have died in a car accident, but soon released her third album, 'Re-Birth' (2012), which saw her refine her identity and change to a more rock influenced sound. The album saw her nominated for Best African Adult Contemporary SAMA.
